NEGATIVE TENSOR POWERS OF
TWO PENCILS ON A GENERAL CURVE

Abstract. Let $C$ be a curve with general moduli. Fix sufficiently general $L, M\in W^1_a(C)$, $L\ne M$. Here we prove that $h^0(C,L^{\otimes x}\otimes M^{\otimes y})$ has the expected value for all $(x,y)\in \{(1,1),(2,-1),(3,-1)\}$.
